2025 Test of Proficiency in Korean (Pilot IBT)
📢 We are pleased to announce that the KECNY will be hosting a pilot IBT test this August.
This session will be free of charge as it is fully funded by the NIIE to promote and encourage participation in the IBT.
Participants will receive an unofficial transcript of their results in October.
Registration for the pilot IBT TOPIK is from May 26 to June 6
The Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) is designed to assess the Korean language proficiency of non-native
speakers and to provide guidance for future Korean language education. This examination is administered by the
National Institute for International Education (NIIE) under the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea, in
cooperation with the Korean Education Center of New York (KECNY) and the Consulate General of the Republic of
Korea in New York.
What is TOPIK (IBT)?
The Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) is an official exam that measures non-native speakers’ Korean language skills. The IBT (Internet-Based Test) version is a new format where the test is taken on a computer, rather than on paper, at an authorized test center. It evaluates reading, listening, and writing skills, and is designed to be more accessible and user-friendly for test-takers.
Please see the details below regarding the upcoming pilot TOPIK (IBT):
A. Test Date: Saturday, August 23
- TOPIC I: 9:40 AM – 11:20 AM
- TOPIC II: 12:50 PM – 4:20 PM
*Please be seated 30 minutes before the exam begins.
B. Test Location: Montclair State University
1 Normal Ave, Montclair, NJ 07043
*Building and room number will be announced closer to the test date.
C. Test Registration
- Registration Period: Monday, May 26 – Friday, June 6
- How to Register: Please visit the KECNY website — the registration button will be activated on the opening day.
- Test Fees:
• TOPIK I: Free
• TOPIK II: Free
- Eligible Applicants: Open to all (no age restrictions)
*Please note: This pilot test is funded by the National Institute for International Education (NIIED) in Korea
and is free of charge for this time only.
*NO additional applications will be accepted after the deadline (June 6).
*Test type CANNOT be changed after registration.
*A minimum of 10 applicants per test is required. If fewer than 10 people register, the test will be canceled.
*If you require special arrangements, please contact KECNY by June 6.
D. Notes
- Items to Bring: Test admission ticket, valid ID
*Identification Requirement (Strictly Enforced):
All candidates must present an official, valid form of identification containing a photo, date of birth, and full English name.
The information on the ID must exactly match the details submitted in your application.
No exceptions will be made.
Those without proper identification will be denied entry to the examination room and will NOT be allowed to take the exam.
- No electronic devices allowed:
Any kind of electronic device is not permitted, including smartphones, smart watches, tablets, and recording devices.
All electronic devices must be turned off and submitted to proctors before the exam begins.
Failure to submit any switched-off electronic devices will be considered cheating,
and those individuals will be ineligible to take any future TOPIK exams for the next five years.

It is the applicants' responsibility to understand these guidelines, and any disadvantage resulting from failure to do so will be the applicant's own responsibility.
E. Test Results: The printable result (unofficial) will be posted on www.topik.go.kr on Tuesday, October 21.
*Please note: The pilot test score report does not hold the same official validity as the score report issued for the regular IBT.

2025년 한국어능력시험 IBT 시범 시행 안내
교육부 산하 국립국제교육원이 주최하고 주뉴욕총영사관 뉴욕한국교육원이 시행하는 한국어능력시험(Test of Proficiency in Korean)을 다음과 같이 안내 드립니다.
뉴욕한국교육원에서는 외국인 및 재외동포의 한국어능력시험(TOPIK) IBT 응시 기회를 확대하기 위해 이번 8월 한국어능력시험 IBT를 시범 시행합니다.
IBT(Internet-Based Test)는 인터넷 기반 시험으로서 종이 기반 한국어능력시험(TOPIK PBT)와 동일한 등급 체계를 가집니다.
A. 시험일: 2025. 8. 23.(토), 9:10~16:20
- TOPIK I: 9:40~11:20 (총 100분)
- TOPIK II: 1교시 12:50~14:40 (총 110분)
2교시 15:10~16:20 (총 70분)
*시험 시작 30분 전까지 입실 완료. 시험 시작 이후 입실 불가
B. 시험 장소: 몽클레어 주립 대학교(뉴저지)

C. 시험 접수
- 접수 기간: 5. 26.(월) ~ 6. 6.(금)
- 접수 방법 : 뉴욕한국교육원 홈페이지에서 온라인 접수 — 등록 시작일에 접수 버튼 활성화 예정
- 응시료:
• TOPIK I: 무료
• TOPIK II: 무료
- 대상: 한국어를 모국어로 하지 않는 모두. 연령 제한 없음
*접수 마감 후, 추가 접수 불가
*접수 마감 후, 시험 수준 변경 불가
*수준별 접수 인원 10명 이상 시행 가능. 최소 인원 미충족 시, 시험 취소
*장애인 등 편의 지원 신청 필요 시, 자세한 안내를 위해 뉴욕한국교육원으로 연락 바람 (기한: 6. 6.)
D. 유의 사항
- 준비물: 수험표, 신분증
*국가 인정 공식 신분증 원본 필수 지참: 반드시 사진, 영문 이름, 생년월일이 포함되어야 함
예) 기간 만료 전의 여권, 운전면허증, 학생증 등
*규정 신분증이 없는 경우, 뉴욕한국교육원으로 사전 연락 바람
- 일체의 전자 기기 소지 불허 (시험 전 전원 종료 후 감독관에게 제출)
- 부정 행위 적발 시, 향후 5년간 응시 불가
*응시 유의 사항을 통해 응시 규정 및 부정 행위 처분 절차에 대해 확인 필수. 미확인으로 인한 불이익은 응시자 본인에게 있음
E. 성적 발표: 10. 21.(화)에 한국어능력시험 홈페이지에서 조회 및 출력 가능
*시범 시행 성적표는 정규 시행 성적표와 동일한 효력을 갖지 않음
